Umm, name is Brad, I have a B.S. in psychology and i'm curently taking my masters. I'm hoping to one day be a forensic psychologist and study the minds of criminals and killers. I'm not sure where to start with this. I've led an interesting life, faced a lot of rarely encountered problems, and somehow collected both my wits and my resolve afterwards. I'm what most learned or wisened, if not neccessarily elderly, people would refer to as an "Old Soul." Had a rough childhood, a terrible coming of age, and so far, this whole adulthood idea doesn't have anything going for it but the alcohol. I grew up with a lot of crazy, and I mean certifiably insane, people in my life. That, in combination with a post-nuclear family and my freakish intelligence, can make a conversation with me either the time of your life or a select moment from the deepest recesses of metaphor-laden Jungian nightmares.

My luck is terrible. If it can go wrong, it did about five years ago. I don't exactly have a terrible self image, I've just lived through almost everything you could imagine that's bad and wrong. So I spend a lot of time gritting my teeth, waiting for the other shoe. I've tried to do something good and sterling and productive with my life, and somehow managed that by donating two years of my time working Habitat for Humanity. In those two years, I had a lot of adventures, made some great friends. Unfortunately, due to my views and moral acumen, 95% of those friends were not of my generation, and I buried all but the last four in May of 2008.

Somehow, over the years of fiscal entropy and inexcusable insomnia, I've become a dependable person. To this date, I have no clue how that happened. I appreciate being honest. If you ask me to, I will brutally tell the truth even it means I become the object of your enmity. I can take a lot of criticism, but be prepared to watch me laugh it off. I don't take a lot of things seriously. At first, that was a defense mechanism, if I'm not laughing, I'm screaming, but now it's most definately the one force that motivates me. That and I learn faster than a sponge absorbs. I will talk to anyone if it means I can glean some interesting fact from them.

I'm pretty old fashioned, level-headed and easy going. The only things in the world that can make me violently angry are cruelty (including abuse of power), and stupidity. Unfortunately, enough exists of the latter to make me seem high strung. I'm uncompromisingly sentimental. There's two books I own in a very safe place: Frog and Toad are friends and Lewis Carroll's Jaberwocky. I've had them since I was four or five years old. It's good to know what's important. Because of this, I have been known to reach my whole arm into boiling water to save a complete stranger's heirloom wedding ring from their grandmother.

I just had a thought that anyone reading this will outright assume I'm some grammar nazi or hardass overcompensating nerd. Not the case. Eh, it's just difficult to find something good to say about yourself when your proudest moment is starting a riot, supergluing a dog to lawn ornaments, or fashioning a loincloth to fake sacrificing a goat so unwanted guests leave. You get the point.

I get asked for advice a great deal, as if steering through the shambles of my life's wreckage earned me a "Wize" badge or something. I'm partial to making friends for life, which doesn't matter as most of them have forgotten me completely. I'm not going for a guilt-trip, and I am uncertain if their actions were on purpose, or if I am just so odd as to be off radar. Egads! A mystery, Watson!

I'm a Geek - Fantasy/Sci-Fi, Gaming (tabletop RPGs mostly), Computers, Politics, etc. I'm an ex-programmer(see "what I'm doing with my life" for more on that) who feels that one of the best things about a computer science program is the culture of interesting people you get to meet along with it.

I'm a Pagan - though a somewhat more philosophically bent one. I've been practicing for a over ten years now (a major portion of my life) and it's been one of the constants through a lot of other changes I've made. I'd say this is around to stay. I'm actually interested in meeting local people who share this interest with me.

I'm a Professional - I get a lot of satisfaction out of getting tasks completed. I've found that I actually enjoy my work designing software (as in, figuring out what it's supposed to do, less actual coding), even if I don't always work on the most exciting types of software in the world. I tend to thrive on accomplishment, and I'm fortunate enough to have a career which constantly has little goals (aka projects) I can achieve. While I definitely don't want career to be the focus of my life, I also can't deny that it's a big part of it.

I'm a Fighter - This is both a bit literal (Rapier - SCA, Kempo) and figurative (Rock Climbing, Self-Challenges). I get a kick out of struggling against myself and others. I'd love to say I'm athletic, but honestly I'm just getting into that post-grad-school so give me about a year and then I'll reapply that label to myself. Regardless, I definitely enjoy both mental and physical challenges.

I'm a little weird - Or, as I'd like to think of it, I'm open to things on the basis of their own merits rather then how things are 'supposed' to work, and sometimes that can lead me a bit outside the mainstream. On the other hand, I think it's important to understand that there generally is a reason for the way that society does things and that going against it for the sake of going against it is often more self-destructive than anything else. For example: this belief has led me to question the way relationships are structured (I've had both serious monogamous relationships and serious polyamorous relationships - I actually find that while polyamory is generally a lot more difficult, it also has some major advantages).

What I'm looking for:

I like people who can teach me things, either in an intellectual sense (an interest in a subject I don't know much about) or in a more holistic sense of someone who has a different (and interesting) perspective of the world.

I like it when other people are passionate and knowledgeable about subjects which I'm not quite as into. I like learning about the way that people look at the world and picking things up from them.

I also won't deny that I've got an intellectual bent, and appreciate that in others. While I am as (if not more) emotional as the next person, that's a layer of me which takes a while to get to know. If you can't keep me intellectually interested, chances are you'll never get to the more emotional aspects of me.

Why I'm here:

I'm mostly just here to expand the circle of people I know, ideally in the local area but communicating online can also be interesting in the right circumstance. I'm open to the idea of a relationship - either monogamous or polyamorous - but I generally find the whole dating concept sort of awkward, and much prefer to let relationships grow out of friendships. I think that trying to make a romantic relationship form via coerced situations is one of the surest ways to shoot yourself in the foot, and that these things should grow or not grow at their own pace and in their own time. If your interested in me, let it be for me as a person, and maybe let things go from there.

Hi, I'm James. First off, I am without a camera and my profile's pictures are out of date; my hair is cut short (and that is NOT my shirt!) i am a ChAraCtEr... simply put....

Laid back, and organized, and looking for adventure. I am intelligient with a wide variety of interests. I adore knowledge and loathe the inability to take responsibility for one's actions. My friends all think I am eccentric, but this is the result of my being incredibly abstract and a proud non-conformist. I am a good listener, but tend to do things my own way. Although I can be shy (occasionally) at first, most people would never expect that from me. As much as I like to live in the moment and be spontaneous, I am also looking to have a family. I suppose it is idealistic of me, but I strongly feel that the two can occur simultaneously. Would rather read a book than watch television, have a bonfire rather then go to the bar. I easily go from one extreme to the other, i.e. outdoors during the day, the symphony at night, or even dead serious to cracking a joke.

I don't want to accept it, but apparently knowing what I want out of life and not being afraid to go after it is intimidating. I have no clue why, and hopefully I am completely wrong about this. But my past experiences has led me to believe that this is true. I am intense and passionate about my life and living it.
